Welcome to the Department of Integrative Biomedical Sciences (IBMS)


Congratulations to Professor Iqbal Parker in the Division of Medical Biochemistry and Structural Biology on his election as Vice President of the African Academy of Science (AAS) for Southern Africa. 

The AAS is a non-aligned, non-political, not-for-profit pan African organisation whose vision is to see transformed lives on the African continent through science. The Academy’s mandate is recognising excellence through the AAS’ highly prestigious fellowship and award schemes, providing advisory and think tank functions for shaping Africa’s Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) strategies and policies and implementing key STI programmes addressing Africa’s developmental challenges.

2019 Retirees Dinner. Robert Samuels is retiring after 46 years of loyal service and true commitment to the Division of Medical Biochemistry and IBMS.
Congratulations to Georgia Schäfer on her EDCTP Senior Research Fellowship, awarded for work on the characterisation of KSHV-driven pathologies and disease outcome in HIV-infected patients.
Congratulations to Dr Hlumani Ndlovu on winning the TW Kambule-NSTF Award: Emerging Researcher for his work on mechanisms modulating fibrogranulomatous liver pathology and protective immunity.
